Overview

SCAD wanted me to researched and contributed to the design of a vehicle that can withstand the test of time, especially with new emerging technologies being constantly developed. I will also constantly collaborated with other teams such as materials and industrial design teams.

Quick Details

I was the team leader for UX research and design team. My tasks were:

• Conducted primary and secondary research in order to pinpoint what the vehicle need for each of its 4 main interior zones.
• Researched about the target audience of the vehicle and their values.
• Contributed to the concept by doing concept sketch while also help building the foam 1:1 scale model. For the foam model, I mainly work on the dashboard, the console, and the steering wheel.
• User tested and collaborated with other teams and gather data through user testing, interview, and survey.
• Designed the client book for Tyr user testing.

The Biggest Roadblock

My team focused on the steering wheel, but delays in the production team left us without a functional prototype until week 10. To work around this, I had the team 3D print a basic model without buttons or electronics. During user testing, I asked participants what features they expected, then had them sketch and place their ideas onto the model. This revealed key features and user preferences, guiding our design decisions.

An interesting finding was that users often held the wheel upside down. When asked why, many explained that the hand rest placement felt illogical—there was no support at the bottom, while the top rings accommodated smaller hands more comfortably.
